Today was such a relief compared to yesterday. Alex woke up early, but was happy (which was a lovely surprise). On our way to the car this morning we went on a star hunt…and found none because it was far too cloudy out.Alex kept hunting them down the whole drive to Nonni’s house and never did find any. She was not happy. She kept saying “Staaaaaarrrrrsssss. Where aaaaaarrrreeeee you?” Clearly they were playing hide and seek.
Besides our celestially-themed beginning of the day, the rest of the day deserved gold stars as well. Alex was great for my mom. She was awesome for me when we got home. She went to bed without complaint. I think this is how God operates. When He knows we are at our wit’s end and ready to cry, he gives us a day like today to remind us of His goodness.
Even if today’s holiday had been “Do Yard Work Until You Drop” day, I still wouldn’t have had reason to complain. Alex was THAT good. But, today’s holiday was even on my side today. Today is National Relaxation Day. Yup. A dedicated day that reminds us we need to take some time out from our too-hectic lives and just relax. So, that is exactly what I did. After I picked Alex up, I went home and immediately got in my pajamas (Alex was already in hers…I know, it was only 3pm…but we were celebrating a holiday people. There is no shame in getting into jammies before most of the world is off work). Alex and I snuggled and watched Mickey Mouse, played babies, swept the whole house (her idea, I would not have initiated that on Relaxation Day), and colored.
Alex ran into the playroom while I threw a frozen dinner in the oven. When she came back in, she had her tongue out and kept saying “ewwwwww”. Then she handed me the purple crayon…with tooth-shaped chunks missing. Well, at least she bit a crayon rather than me. But then I got to deal with removing the purple crayon from her tiny little fangs. Even de-purpling her fangs was not enough to damper the mood of the evening. I am one blissful Momma.
