In honor of today’s depressing holiday, Alex and I bought bird feed (because birds are technically homeless wanderers in search of food), unsalted, roasted peanuts (because squirrels are in the same category), and dog food. Nope. We did not get a dog. I can celebrate today without adding extra work, stress (and stray hair and saliva) to my already hectic life. Even though I can see the benefits of camaraderie and joy that animals bring to a house, they also bring fleas, hair, saliva, and a tushie that they don’t clean or keep covered. Someday I will be ready. Today is not that day.
Tomorrow (because the rest of today is booked with a birthday party and dinner out with my girls. Yipee!), I intend to take Alex to the local no-kill animal shelter to donate the food (and tennis balls she insisted the puppies needed). I hope to NOT see a sad-faced puppy staring at me. I hope to remain confined to the reception area so that I don’t have to see the poor little caged beasts. I have such a soft spot for them…so I have to AVOID. Otherwise I will want to take them ALL home…until I get home and realize that I have even MORE cleaning to do.
So, the picture I leave you with today has nothing to do with the holiday. Well, I take that back. Alex was getting dressed to go shopping for the supplies…that is sort of related.
